Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall.....

It's winter....the time of year when we're all craving longer days and a little less darkness.  Mirrors are a fabulous way to add not just drama and interest to your decor, but also some room-brightening, reflective light to the dark corners of any space.  Check out these additions to our mirror collection at Farm and Filigree.  They're not just for hanging on the wall - attach them to large tree trunks at your nest outdoor event or station them on an easel by the buffet as a writing surface for the evening's menu.  The possibilities are truly endless.

Since it is winter, we also wanted to share with you our perfect seating solutions for those outdoor fire pits.  Mix our vintage metal seating with our natural stump stools for the perfect combination as you're making the last s'mores of the season. The hickory stump stools  make great side tables, too, providing the perfect spot for your guests to place their drinks.  Interesting seating (and marshmallows and chocolate of course!) will help make the fire pit the hottest hang out spot at your party!

Check out these items as well as other vintage rentals that will inspire you all to pieces in our rental inventory at www.farmandfiligree.com

Ring in the Old and Make it New!

Vintage....just the singular word makes us swoon.  Just why do so many, young and old alike, find all things vintage so irresistible these days? Synonyms of the word aren't held in such high regard - think "old", "used", "worn", and "tattered".

Perhaps some of the appeal of vintage arises from the fact that so many items in our world today are termed "single-use", "disposable", and "throw-away", and like fast food from McDonalds, aren't meant to be savored , but have value only for the moment at hand. In a day and age when Christmas morning treasures are already broken and in the trash by mid-January, it's interesting to imagine old furniture and fabrics having such worth in the eyes of their caretakers that torn spots were patched, chipped places re-glued and painted, and favorite chairs re-upholstered for the third or fourth times, the layers of beautiful fabrics not removed and tossed but simply covered over.

The appeal of vintage gives credence to the notion that beautiful doesn't always mean perfect.  I like to think that as I myself become a little more worn around the edges with age, there's an appeal that comes from loving and being loved over the decades that my husband and I have been together.  With a history, comes a deeper , more meaningful story.

For example, I much prefer my current lingerie chest despite its flaws to any I could go purchase in any store.  Its story began as an infant chest for my great aunt as she mothered her three children.  It was then handed down to her younger sister, my grandmother, as she entered the parenting years with her own three children.  While I was in college and needing a small chest of drawers, my grandmother gave it to me, at which time it received its fourth coat of paint.  Its next tour of duty was again as a baby dresser for my own four children, during which it was completely stripped of all its layers of paint (yes, all 4!), sanded, and lightly stained so that its original wood grain shown through. It currently sits in our bathroom, housing all my lingerie rather than infant gowns, and is still one of my favorite pieces in our home.  ( My husband likes my lingerie chest , too, but not because of its history.)

Farm and Filigree promises to bring you the best of such vintage rentals in the new year.  Ring out the old , ring in the new?  We don't think so.  We'll take the old and make it new, by updating or styling it just right.  Our curated collection is always growing and changing, so check out our inventory regularly.  You may find yourself a bigger fan of vintage than you think!
